MANCHESTER, VT [April 21, 2008] – W. Hardy Interactive, Inc. today launched an innovative reinvention of its Vermont vacation travel planner at www.GoVermont.com, first published in 1996. During the past twelve years, this product has been adopted by several prominent Vermont websites and has proven very popular, over time receiving millions of visitors. It has served as an online cornerstone for tourism in Vermont, one of the state's largest industries.
The new website combines Web 2.0 technologies such as AJAX, web services and XML data interchange to create a comprehensive travel planner that integrates content from sources including the State of Vermont, the Travelocity partner network and its own custom database, which also provides visitor input. The resulting product is one that offers an exciting vacation planning experience where the users can build their itinerary based on detailed information about major regions, counties, towns, mountain resorts and cross country ski centers, all cross-referenced against nearby lodging, upcoming events, user comments and interactive maps. Under a partnership with Travelocity, lodging content builds live via XML interchange and allows the website to offer complete reservation bookings under its own brand.
"This offers us an excellent opportunity for revenue streaming," says W. Hardy Interactive President, Walter Hardy, "as we profit from lodging commissions while Travelocity provides the lodging content and reservations services. By tapping into Travelocity's database via XML, we are able to use their content in new and exciting ways to provide the user with an enriched experience. For example, our website combines state-sponsored events with lodging availability to offer the user an online planning experience unavailable elsewhere."
